There is something magical about a wedding that feels completely present, deeply connected, and full of genuine joy, and Sam and Cody's celebration at The Stables at Windy Point in Potsdam, NY was exactly that.

Set over Memorial Day Weekend with the warmth of early summer in the North Country, their wedding day brought together family, friends, meaningful traditions, and a whole lot of singing, laughter, and love. From heartfelt getting ready moments to lakeside vows and a packed dance floor, every part of the day reflected who they are as a couple.

A Morning Filled with Family History

The day began with quiet, meaningful moments while Sam got ready with her closest family and friends. One of the details that stood out most was the beautiful connection to family history woven into the morning.

Sam wore her grandmother's ring and got ready using a mirror that had also belonged to her grandmother. These simple heirlooms carried generations of memories and added an extra layer of meaning to the start of the day. It was one of those reminders that a wedding is about more than a single day. It is also about the people and stories that helped shape the journey.

Lakeside Vows in the Forest

One of the reasons couples love The Stables at Windy Point in Potsdam, NY is the incredible variety of scenery available throughout the property. For Sam and Cody, the lakeside forest ceremony site created the perfect setting for an intimate and emotional exchange of vows.

Surrounded by towering trees and the peaceful sounds of nature, family and friends gathered along the water to witness their ceremony. Then came one of the most memorable moments of the entire day.

During her vows, Sam surprised everyone by leading the guests in a heartfelt rendition of "Happy Together." Before long, family and friends joined in, creating a beautiful shared experience that perfectly reflected the couple's desire to be fully present with the people they love most.

It was joyful, unexpected, and completely unforgettable.

Exploring the Property for Portraits

After the ceremony, we took advantage of the beautiful grounds surrounding The Stables at Windy Point in Potsdam, NY for portraits.

One of my favorite details was the restored 1980 International Scout truck that became part of their portrait experience. The vintage vehicle fit perfectly with the relaxed countryside atmosphere of the venue and gave us a unique backdrop that felt personal to the day.

As we moved around the property, Sam and Cody remained incredibly relaxed. One of the things we had worked on from our very first planning conversation was creating a timeline that allowed them to enjoy the day rather than feel rushed through it. Watching them soak in each moment with their family and wedding party was one of my favorite parts of the entire celebration.

Making Sure Everyone Was Included

When the reception began, Sam and Cody introduced a fun twist that immediately got everyone involved.

Rather than waiting until later in the evening to connect with guests, they invited each reception table onto the dance floor immediately after their grand entrance. Every guest had the opportunity to take a portrait with the newlyweds before heading to the buffet dinner.

It was such a thoughtful way to make sure they captured memories with everyone who traveled to celebrate with them. The result was a collection of photographs that truly reflected the community that surrounded them on their wedding day.

A Celebration Focused on Togetherness

If I had to choose one word to describe Sam and Cody's wedding, it would be togetherness.

From family heirlooms and lakeside vows to singing with guests and making time for portraits with every table, every decision they made centered around sharing meaningful moments with the people they love most.

As their photographer, it was especially rewarding to see how relaxed and present they were throughout the day. From our first planning call to the final dance of the evening, everything came together in a way that allowed them to fully experience their wedding rather than simply move through it.

And in the end, that is exactly what made their celebration so special.
